So VERY excited for this! It’s been many years waiting for an EDT LP. Finally! And what a stellar set of accompanying artists— surely perfect. This first song is lovely. I can’t wait to hear all the others!
Sometimes the subtle beauty takes the longest time revealing itself. Those moments with real depth and detail; they stretch endlessly, they demand revisiting, they last. Such are the sounds of EDT’s it was a wave, of course. Begun in 2017, and spiritually long-before, these nine meditations have held hand and heart for a decade before reaching ears in this soon-to-be album form. Penned by Emily Dix Thomas— a Maine-bred, Rhode Island-based cellist, composer, songwriter, teacher, and interdisciplinary performer— these are songs of longing, songs of grief, songs of sexuality, songs of fading borders between people, gender, and the natural world. Recorded alongside bassist and sonic-tinkerer Liz Isenberg (Deer Tick, Death Vessel) and drummer Rachel Blumberg (The Decemberists, Califone, She & Him), the music reflects Emily’s varied musical background: classical to contemporary, folk to doom, soundscapes to noise, diverse collaborations with The Huntress and Holder of Hands, Lingua Ignota, Horse Jumper of Love, and many others. Hazy drones, lilting choirs, AM static, ringing bells, pizzicato echoes, distant crashes— all full of rich texture, in eyes-closed technicolor, like new worlds unraveling slowly, washing over you, powerful, still, and limitless. Like it was a wave. Of course.
